The natural point classified by each island of Yaeyama Islands					img imgHateruma Island

It is located 63km southwest of the Ishigaki island, and is the island in which the man at the southernmost tip in Japan lives. It is said that the name of the island was acquired by the reason called “coral reef of the farthest limit”. The main industries are sugarcane cultivation, and it is commercialized at the sugar manufacture factory of the island. There are also many highlights, such as “The monument at the southernmost tip in Japan” “marvelous view of Takanazaki” “Starlit sky observation tower”, besides historic relics, such as “Nagata Utaki” and “The birth place of Akahachi”. As for the center of an island, the roadside trees of Fukugi as a windbreak to which old appearance remains and protects a house from the wind of a typhoon are looked.
