It is located in 30km of west of the Ishigaki Island. It is a big island
to the next of main island in Okinawa prefecture. There is 90% of the
island is covered with the subtropical primeval forest. The many mountains
of the altitude of 300m to 400m are dotted, including Mt. Komi of an altitude
of 470m. Moreover, there are also many rivers and mangrove forests have
also spread in the down-stream region. Plain nature has remained in the
whole island, and peculiar animal, globally precious living things, such
as a natural treasure, exist. It is received attentions in recent years
as the place of dispatch of the eco-tourism, which utilized the rich natural
resource.
