Ubanari Island

Ubanari Island is an uninhabited island located northeast about 0.2km from Noharazaki on Iriomote Island. The altitude of the island is 17m, and the area is 0.05sq.km. Local residents call this island “Aujima” otherwise “Au” and “Aushima”. Because the shape of this island seems like that of a samisen turned sideways when it is seen from Aragusuku Island, and it is called “Sanshin yama”. Although the residents of Iriomote Island or Taketomi Island were pasturing goats there after the Second World War, it is wasteland now.
