

This island is a flat island located 17km
south-southwest of the Ishigaki Island. It is called by a popular name
Heart Island from the form of the island. The stock raising
of the black color Japanese beef in Kuro-shima is the main industry of
this island, and is eaten to many people. About 10 time as much cattle
as populations are pastured, and, as for lands other than the colony of
the island, most is reclaimed as grazing land. The cattle festival is
performed as an event of the island every year. West coast of the island
is a tourist route, also is famous as the egg-laying site of sea turtle.
Whole region of the island and circumference ocean area are specified
as Iriomote National Park.
