The natural point classified by each island of Yaeyama Islands img imgYonaguni Island

It is located 509km from Naha, is the island of the westernmost tip in Japan. The geographical feature of the island is rich in ups and downs. There is a quay with a height of 100m sunk in the sea perpendicularly, or also there is the unexplored subtropical jungle. There are three colonies, Sono is located on north, Kubura in west, and Higawa in south. The main industry of Sono and Higawa is sugarcane cultivation, and the swordfish fishery is performed in Kubura. It is famous also as a place of big game fishing. The tourists who visit in quest of a natural figure besides fishing or diving are increasing in number. When Mr. Wahei Tatematsu of a writer was young, to have stayed by help of sugarcane harvest is known. The sea of Yonaguni has good transparency, because the Japan (Kuroshio) Current collides directly, and it is popular for the upper diver.
