Scenic spots in the outlying islands around the main island of Okinawa Geruma Island

Geruma Island is located 200m south of Aka Island. Geruma Island is the smallest inhabited island among three islands in Zamami village. Kerama deer are habitat and the island is reserved to be a sanctuary. The only settlement in the island was originally developed as the home of sailors. At the end of the Battle of Okinawa, two days after the US military landed, almost all of the residents took their lives. Geruma Island is connected with Fukajijima. In 1998, Geruma Island was bridged with Aka Island.
