Kaichu Doro is a 4.75-kilometer long oversea
bridge that links Yakena in Yokatsu Peninsula with Henza Island. Before
the bridge was built, the waters were so shallow that trucks called kaijo
(marine) trucks could cross the waters. In 1972, an embankment was
built there, and to improve the scenery, all of the then existing telephone
poles were removed for the cables to be buried underground. The waters
on both sides of the road are shallow, and in the summer, you can enjoy
windsurfing and swimming there. |
