Niiyateiya Cave is located at the western
side of Kawahira village and Aginahara. It was used as an air-raid shelter
during wartime, and since many villagers were saved there, it is also
called the "Sennin-gama” (a cave for a thousand people). There is
a saying that if a husband and wife, who are not blessed with a child,
visits the cave and lift the heavy stone inside the cave, they will be
blessed with a child within the same year. There is a festival held only
by the Noro (priestess) and women inside the cave in March of the Chinese
lunar calendar. |
