Deer fossils were found in the remains of
a half-cave formed about halfway up a 20 meter cliff in Kadahara at the
northern coast of Ie Island. In 1936, Shigeyasu Tokunaga discovered these
deer fossils in the cave, and since he found wishbone products with these
fossils, he made an announcement at an academic meeting that these were
the first remains from the Old Stone Age found in Japan. Fragments of
human cranial bones and some chipped stone tools from the Old Stone Age
were found, as well, from the same location after World War II. |
