
Kita- Daito Island is located 380 east of Okinawa Island. The island
is made up of raised coral and is the far east island in Okinawa prefecture.
The island is surrounded by cliff and the central area of the island is
basin in shape. In 1904, Hanzaemon Tamaki, an immigrant from Hachijou
island, began to develop the island, implemented the mining of phosphorous,
and cultivated sugar cane. Sugar cane fields spread all aver the island
and is advanced region of mechanized agriculture in Okinawa. Some people
on Okinawa worshiped Kita-Daito Island as the land of god.
