| As soon as the stone lion-dog figure at Tomori in Kochinda Town was produced in the latter part of the 17th century, more communities installed village shisa for fire protection or as talismans. Chronologically preceding the roof shisa, these figures still gaze from the towns in order to repel evil spirits that are trying to enter. Let's take a moment to think about people in the old days by having a look at village shisa with various expressions on their faces, appearing brave or beautiful, or even just simple shisa made from unworked stone. |
