Chuzan Seido : framed part

Plaque on the Second Floor of the Seiden;

In the Ryukyu Kingdom, calligraphic letters from Chinese emperors offered to the kings of the Ryukyus were made into a plaque and hung on the second floor of the Seiden. Nine such letters are known to have been hung; however, none of the originals exists now. One of them is the "Chuzan Seido" plaque written by Emperor Koki in 1683 and given to King Sho Tei, which was restored in 1995 based on studies of reference materials.

The surface is hard and strong, yet smooth.

The surface is hard and strong, yet smooth.

The calligraphic letters of Emperor Koki were analyzed using a computer and the emperor's signature and seal were also reproduced based on reference materials in China. The size of the plaque is 1.47 cm x 3.75 cm and it weighs 160 kg. Reproducing this big plaque was difficult, as was placing it into its correct position.
