Kofuku Gate

Kofuku Gate

The Kofuku gate has three routes of entry. The route in the east, leads to Okumiza (an administrative office to keep family registers), the western route leads to Jisha Za (an office to keep track of temples and shrines) and the central route leads to Shicha nu Una. The plaque is placed on top of the central path.

Reference materials for this gate are very limited in number and volume. The only thing confirmed so far was the fact that the calligraphic letters were written in a vertical line. The details of this plaque were borrowed from the letters on the Kankai and Zuisen gates for the purpose of its reproduction. The basic design portrays the sun in the center and a twin-headed dragon breaking through the clouds, which are characteristically seen in other types of decorations at Shuri Castle.
