Shurei Gate

Shurei Gate

The Shurei gate was built outside Shuri Castle and has been recognized as an important cultural property by Okinawa Prefecture. The plaque for this gate says "Shurei no Kuni," or "nation of propriety." That is why this gate is called Shureimon. Unlike other plaques, this one has no engraved decoration or colors.

To show courtesy, it is always kept clean after completion.

What I made for this gate will replace the existing plaque at the time of its repair, thus it was made to resemble the existing plaque as much as possible using a single Yakusugi, a large Japanese cedar from Yakushima. It is usually kept at the Okinawa Prefectural Museum.
