After the 17th century, exchanges with Satsuma increased and dispatch of "Keigashi" envoys to congratulate the enthronement of Shogun Tokugawa and "Shaonshi" envoys to Edo to pay respects for the enthronement of the Ryukyuan king started in 1634 and continued 18 times, until 1850.
The Edo pilgrimage was made around May to June when the ships set sail towards Satsuma on the southern wind, and a party of over 100 people traveled to Edo via Satsuma, Fushimi and Tokaido, and made exchanges with the Japanese performing arts of the locality. In Kyoto, exchanges in Noh were made with high officials, and much influence was received from Kabuki and the plays in Edo.
