Kumiodori was created in 1719 by Chokun Tamagusuku and was greatly influenced by "Noh" to the extent that the two are often compared. However, the themes of Kumiodori reflect the ancient legends and history of the Ryukyus. It is a performing art endemic to the islands that originated from public entertainment and was developed and perfected through theatrical history along with entertainment interaction with Japan and China.
