Originally from a place called Senbaru, located within Kadena
Air Base, this Eisa is presently transmitted as Eisa of Senbaru, Chatan
Village. It is a men-only dance.
A long time ago, Senbaru was a village reclaimed by the samurai
class of Shuri, which explains that it is a man-only performed dance.
The characteristics for which this Eisa is known are karate-like
forms incorporated in it to create a powerful and dynamic dance.
With hips lowered, performers stand ready assuming a sort
of guard while holding laced drums horizontally to create a soul-stirring
dance. |
