Mainly, motifs of kaidan were from local
legends or folk stories with uncertain origins and authors. Since
the stories have relationship with local history, audiences felt they
were become familiar to them. They are attractive not only they are
scary, but sad, touching, and tell the results of obsession and persistence
in the form of weird fantasies. Gradually in recent times, the dramaturgy
of kaidan has become sophisticated.
