Description
When Okinawan dramas are clasified, those that deal with the history or legends of the Ryukyus are generally called "kyuugeki"(old drama). The well-known dramas of "kyuugeki" are "Nakijin Yuraiki"(The History of Nakijin), "Gosamaru Chuuyuuden"(The Story of Loyal Gosamaru), or "Amawari・Yonabaru no Hama" (Amawari・the Yonabaru Beach) all of which deal with the history or the legends of Okinawa. As dramas with spectacles, "Shurijoo Akewatashi" and "Kiiroi Gunkan"(A Yellow Warship) were performed from Taisho era to Showa. In the middle of Taisho era, as a "Rensa geki", in which a stage and a film were linked, "Nasake no Hikari", "Okuyama no Botan", "Yakushidoo", "Untamagiru" were performed. The style of the stage linking a film stimulated the theatrical world in those days.
