| 2.Stringing wrapped rice cakes
according to the child's age |
|
Held on December 8 of the lunar calendar, this observance takes
place in the home to pray for the health of the family by offering
rice cakes wrapped in fragrant sannin
(Alpinia zerumbet cv. Variegata)
leaves, and also symbolizes the approach of winter. At homes
where a new child is born, families celebrate the "Hachi
Muuchii" custom and distribute rice cakes to relatives
and neighbors.
