Kanshiwa, Kanshu
This is a kata that was created for beginner. All its contents, including uketomeru (blocking), tsukitomeru (punching) and kerihanasu (kicking) are indispensable for mastering karate's instantaneous application of force, based on the three main elements of uke (block), tsuki (punch) and keri (kick). Kanshiwa is a combination of two names, Kan (from Kanbun Uechi, the founder of Uechi-ryu karate-do), and Shiwa (from Shushiwa, the leader of the Pangainun-ryu of Chinese Nanpa-Shorin-ken).

 | Kanchin This is one of kata that were developed after the war, and supports the basic system of Uechi-ryu karate-do today. In this kata, many developments are rolled out at the suegoshi (plunking) position after a sharp fumikomi (stamping kick) motion from tenshin-waza (body transfer techniques), such as hiji-tsuki (elbow strike), shoken sukui uke (one fist scooping block), and gedan haraiuke (lower level downward parry). It requires a tough lower body and twisting power of the waist. The fine blend of offensive and defensive motions is spectacular. Mastering the kata, however, requires a sophisticated technical sense and many years of ascetic training.
