[Biographical outline]
Born in Naha City. Became a pupil of Yasukichi Aragaki (Shuri-te) in 1926. Studied under Chotoku Kyan in 1933. Studied under Choki Motobu in 1938. Appointed as Vice President of Okinawa Karate-do Renmei in 1956. Became 1st President of All Okinawa Karate-do Renmei as it was established in 1967. Founded and became Grand Master and Head of the Headquarters of World Matsubayashi-ryu Karate Association in 1975. Died in 1997 at age 90.

1940 Appointed as Special Commission member on Okinawa Karate-do by Governor Hayakawa of Okinawa Prefecture, and developed 'Fukyu-gata I.'
1941 Appointed as Special Commission member on Okinawa Karate-do by Governor Hayakawa of Okinawa Prefecture, and developed 'Fukyu-gata I.'
1947 Named Matsubayashi-ryu after the character 'matsu' that appears in both the names of Sokon Matsumura (Shuri-te) and Kosaku Matsumora (Tomari-te), and established and became the Grand Master and Head of Matsubayashi-ryu Karate Kodokan.
1953 Established dojo at, Kumoji, Naha City
1964 Hanshi 9th Dan
1975 Hanshi 10th Dan

1975 Received Sports Medal of Merit for Karate-do Dissemination from the Okinawa Times
1979 Received Medal of Merit for Gymnastics and Sports from Okinawa Prefecture
1982 Received Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays
1993 Received Medal of Merit for Okinawa Karate-do from the Ryukyu Shinpo
1997 Recognized as Intangible Cultural Asset holder in the Field of Okinawan Karate and Martial Arts with Weaponry by Okinawa Prefecture
