The Ryukyu Islands are the areas where the limestone of the coral reef origin is distributed widely, and the Ryukyu lime terrace is distributed everywhere. Okinawa is the area which turned against preservation of the bone of an animal from such natural environment, and more than half of the Pleistocene era fossil human bone discovered at home is discovered from within the prefecture. Subdequently, the order of discovery is the Kada cave man, Kadarudoujin discovered in 1962 in Iejima island, the Ooyama cave man, Tougen cave man, Twubarudoujin, Yamashitachodaiiti cave man, Jyoubu Minagwajin, Minatogawajinn, Gobesu cave man, Pizaabu cave man, Shimojibaru cave man. Among them, the oldest fossil human bones are the “Yamashita cave man” at the Daiichi douketsu, yamashita-cho, Naha-shi, which is about 32,000 years ago. By discovering this fossil human bone, it turned out that there were human beings in Japan 32,000 years ago. Speaking of the fossil human bone in Okinawa, the “ minagawajin” is famous, but the Minatogawajin is a friend of Homo sapiens (new man) who had lived in Okinawa about 18,000 years ago. The Minatogawajin's existence is isimportant since the excavation situation is very good, when explaining the aspect of the human beings of Pleistosene era.
