What is the human telling?
Giant Legend which was introduced into Okinawa
Giant Legend which was introduced into Okinawa space
The legend about a giant remains in every place in Okinawa. For example, there is a tale about a giant “Amanchu” who pushed and divided the heaven and the ground as God of creating the world in the Ryukyu myth. Amanchu, God who is 3 meters tall, appears only in the festival of the village in Sashiki-cho. The Amanchu who the youth organization dresses up stands up over someone's shoulder and cover the one over with white clothes in order to express the height. Then, the scene where he hands the seed of some grains to the villagers can be performed. Moreover, it is told that there were the grounds of a giant Amanchu in the mountain in Sashiki, which is targeted in their faith even now. Futhermore, Sanai Isoba, a woman chief, who reigned over Yonaguni in the 16th century, may be said that she was a bigger giant than a cow and a horse. On the top of the mountain “Iejima Tacchu” in the middle of Iejima island, there is a dent called a giant's footprint on the rock now. For more than 10 thousand years since a “Minatogawa man”, a human bone has been found. However, recently, 7 human bones regarded as a bone of Upper Jomon Period were found at the Garumando Cave near Minatogawa. They are old as a human bone next to Minatogawa man. Furthermore, as a result of researching these human bones, it turned out that they are bigger than some bones found till now, and it is said that they are about 160 centimeters. We think that some Yayoi men in the South-West Islands connecting to the current Okinawans found after that were very short as well as the “Minatogawa men”, but supposing that only a Jomon man in Okinawa had been big, what would it mean ?
