Open Air Market of Yomitan Village
Head north on Route 58 for about 20 km from Naha, and just past Kadena Air Base is Yomitan Village. The population is roughly 34,000, and the village used to be called "Yuntanza," meaning Yomitan mountain. The village is famous for purple sweet potatoes, Okinawan pottery, Zanpa Cape, and the U.S. military facility "elephant cage." Members of Kiroro, a popular pop music duo from Okinawa, were born and raised on this land also. Yomitan Village is always energetic and its people burn with enterprising spirit.
