There are six archeological sites in the municipality: Noguni Shell Mounds, Kadena Shell Mound, archeological sites in the southern hill at the mouth of the Hija River, Yaragusuku Castle, Kadenagusuku Castle and Kuninaogusuku Castle. The development of Kadena dates back to ancient times, and people settled there before the Jomon Era. It is estimated that the shell mounds found near the mouth of the Hija River and the coastline were accumulated 6,000 - 7,000 years ago.
