Red-tiled Temple: Kin Kannon Temple
Kinpousan's Kin Kannon Temple is also a landmark that should not be missed. According to legend, Nisshu, a Japanese Buddhist priest returning home from China, was blown off course by a typhoon and rescued by Kin villagers in 1522. During his stay he carved statues of Buddha, Yakushi (God of Medicine), and Kannon (God of Mercy). This is believed to be the origin of the temple. On the temple premises there is a large Fukugi tree, a designated national monument, and it is difficult not to feel the solemnity of history and tradition in its profound tranquility.
