American Vestiges Seen in Kin's Shinkaichi district
Kin's Shinkaichi district has developed by the gate of Camp Hansen, along with the growth of the dollar economy. Here one is able to witness a face of Okinawa from the days of U.S. reign. On Friday nights, especially right after a payday, the district becomes alive with American military personnel while locals and tourists join in to mingle with drinks in their hands. The faded billboards in English also create an exotic mood.
